For me there is too many layers of abstraction, with Kohana I feel like there isn't too much 'magic' going on and I can customize the way everything works and looks very easily. I guess its the same reason I prefer a stripped down CSS framework like Boilerplate CSS to other more complete frameworks. I looked at symfony; looks like an awesome framework.
